About Prof. Dr. Kirsten Krause:
In my group we are investigating the interaction between parasitic plants and their hosts. We are equally interested in understanding how the very interface at the cellular and subcellular level is established and functionally maintained, and how the ability to interact with an exceptionally wide set of hosts has evolved.
Our Institute Leads the Way at ONT Plant Day 2025
(19.11.2025) The event Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) Plant Day was co-organized by our Institute of Biological Data Science together with ONT. A central message of the day was clear: ONT sequencing is rapidly becoming a transformative force in plant research, from pangenomes to breeding and biodiversity studies. Our institute is proud to be at the forefront of this development. Prof. Björn Usadel opened the session, setting the stage for a series of excellent talks by our group members Vivien Joisten-Rosenthal, Lucas Munnes, and Dr. Jan Piotr Buchmann. Their contributions showcased how our research is helping drive advancements of ONT technologies in plant genomics. The event also welcomed Dr. Luciana Gaccione from the University of Turin, who is a close collaboration partner of our institute. Her presentation included her recently published work in Nature Communications, which stood as an inspiring example of the international partnerships strengthening this field. The day was a great success and highlighted our institute’s leading role in pushing plant sequencing forward with cutting-edge ONT technologies.
Antrittsvorlesung von Prof. Björn Usadel
(15.11.2022) Nach coronabedingter Wartezeit fand die Antrittsvorlesung von Prof. Dr. Björn Usadel vom Institut Biological Data Science im sehr gut besuchten Hörsaal 6K statt. Sein kurzweiliger Vortrag mit dem Titel: „Kann man zu viele Daten über Pflanzen haben oder ist weniger auch manchmal mehr?“ sorgte für Einblicke in die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen von Data Science und zeigte den Weg seiner bisherigen wissenschaftlichen Laufbahn.
Nach der Vorlesung gab es noch ein geselliges Beisammensein mit Snacks und Getränken.
Wissenschaftliche Publikationen | Zwei Biologen sind „Highly Cited Researchers 2022“
(15.11.2022) Die Analyseplattform „Web of Science“ zeichnet auch in diesem Jahr sieben Mediziner und zwei Biologen der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (HHU) aufgrund ihrer vielfach rezipierten wissenschaftlichen Publikationen als „Highly Cited Researcher“ aus. Die Auszeichnung, die in den Natur- und Sozialwissenschaften vergeben wird, wird an Forscherinnen und Forscher verliehen, die zu den am meisten zitierten Autoren eines Fachgebiets zählen, was ihren Einfluss in der wissenschaftlichen Fachwelt widerspiegelt.
